For advanced players. If you’re not sure, stay with standard tuning.

• Standard tuning g D G B DThis is how everyone learns, and all chord shapes from books and classes fit.
• Double C g C G C DThe low D string and the B string both become C: songs in C and old fiddle tunes come easily.
• G-Modal (Sawmill) g D G C DThe B string goes up a half step to C: sounds mysterious and old, like in the Appalachian mountains.
• Open D f# D F# A DAll open strings sound as D major. Good for songs in D – the chords are easy to fret.
