Tuning

For advanced players. If you’re not sure, stay with standard tuning.

• Standard tuning E A D G B EThis is how everyone learns, and all chord shapes from books and classes fit.
• Drop D D A D G B EOnly the low E string goes down a whole step: big rock chords with one finger, and songs in D.
• Open G D G D G B DAll open strings already sound as G major. Great for blues, rock and playing with a bottleneck slide.
• Open D D A D F# A DAll open strings sound as D major – full and deep. Popular for slide guitar and folk.
• Open E E B E G# B EAll open strings sound as E major, bright and strong – the classic for slide blues. Three strings are tuned up tighter – better with an adult.
• DADGAD D A D G A DOpen and floating, neither major nor minor. Typical for Celtic and Irish music.
