Week 8 of 24
Goal: You learn G7 with three fingers and play “Hänschen klein” with C and G7.
Review
Down-up with F and C7 to the metronome. Is your hand swinging evenly?
Step by step
- G7 makes a little triangle: middle finger on the C string at fret 2, index on the E string at fret 1, ring finger on the A string at fret 2. Chart: G7.
- Place the fingers one by one, then all together. Pluck each string – the open G string must ring too.
- G7 wants to go back to C, just like C7 goes to F. Listen: G7 – C.
- Changing C ↔ G7: with C only your ring finger is down. Practise the G7 shape “in the air” first, then put it down as one.
Time to make music: your piece
“Hänschen klein” and “Summ, summ, summ” with C and G7. Use “Only down” or already “Down-up” – your choice.
Homework for next time
Five days, about ten minutes each:
- Fret G7, check each string, let go – five times.
- C – G7 – C – G7 slowly, no rhythm.
- “Hänschen klein” with “Waits for me”.
- Fun: chord game C and G7 – beat your record.
Done when …
- all four strings ring with G7
- you accompany all of “Hänschen klein”
If you get stuck
- Your fingers don’t fit side by side? Let your thumb sink lower behind the neck – that gives your fingers more room.
- The G string doesn’t ring? Your middle finger is leaning on it. Stand it up more.
For teachers: lesson plan
- ≈ 10 min Warm-up: “finger triangle” – everyone forms G7 in the air, puts it down, lifts it. Five times.
- ≈ 15 min Practice: the teacher plays C or G7, the class listens and calls out the chord. Then switch yourselves.
- ≈ 20 min Song together: “Hänschen klein” – one group sings, one plays, then swap.
Differentiation: those who are confident play the piece with down-up or help a partner; those who need more time strum only on beat one of each bar.
